So I think we’ve all reached that point where we’re getting sick of the snow and are ready for warm weather… which always puts me in the mood for a refreshing, summery drink. Since I’m pregnant I obviously can’t enjoy my usual alcoholic drinks. But sometimes I get a little bored with drinking just water and want to pretend like I’m having a cocktail with the rest of the drinking world!
This recipe was inspired by a shirley temple. I remember drinking them all the time when I was little, and then being so embarrassed when my Dad would still order one for me at a restaurant when I was 14. Well now that I’m grown and
sexy pregnant, I’m back to drinking them, but I changed up the recipe to make it a little more “grown up” and even yummier. Instead of cherries, I added strawberries and some refreshing, AWESOME-smelling basil.
Taking this recipe from a virgin cocktail to an alcoholic one is easy, just add some rum! If I were drinking, I would add my favorite, Blue Chair Bay coconut rum. I think the coconut flavor would go so well with this. I’ll try that one out in 5 more months : )
- handful of chopped strawberries
- handful of chopped basil
- 1 can (or small bottle) of Sprite
- 3 TBS of Grenadine (or to taste)
- (optional) 1-2 oz. coconut rum
First toss your basil and strawberries into the bottom of a tall glass. Muddle it a little with a spoon, or a real muddler if you’re fancy like that. Add some ice, sprite, grenadine (and rum if you’re making it alcoholic) and mix thoroughly.
Drink… enjoy… and dream about warmer weather!
